Pondicherry Tour for 3 Days is a popular south Indian resort with colonial buildings, a modern seafront promenade, ancient sites, and golden beaches. This is my humble attempt to provide a complete travel guide and design the ideal Pondicherry itinerary for visitors who only have two to three days to spend in this lovely city. In just three days, you can see the finest of Pondicherry.
It was under Dutch, British, and French authority before becoming a Union Territory of independent India, and it is located on India’s eastern coast. The city’s culture is primarily Dravidian, despite the fact that the French left an unmistakable stamp on it. The region was dominated by great southern kingdoms such as the Cholas, Pallavas, Vijayanagara, and the Sultanate of Madurai in succession. The French arrived at a little fishing village called Putucerri in the 17th century, which roughly translates to “new settlement” in Tamil. Pondicherry was turned into a great port town. It was renamed Puducherry in 2006, but the anglicized term is still widely used.
Pondicherry has its own airport, so you can fly right into the city. However, it is a small one, and acquiring a direct ticket is difficult. The nearest city with a significant airport is Chennai, which is about 150 kilometres from Pondicherry. The ECR highway connects it, and it takes 2.5 hours to get there.
Pondicherry can be reached by public transportation in a variety of ways.
You can enjoy shopping and walking in the heritage street, before your return journey. But if you’re up for an adventure, hike the enormous Ginjee fort located 67 km from Pondicherry on the way to Bangalore.
