Malta Work Permit Application Process

In This article, we have explained Malta Work Permit Application Process in detail. The Company in Malta can apply for a work permit, through an agent or by themself. In case the company wants to apply for Malta Work Permit through the Malta Register Recruitment Agency. They will issue a DOP ( DECLARATION OF POSTING). This is Declaration from the company about the Job Requirements Job Description and profiles vacant in the Company. When the Main Company issue DOP the registered Recruitment Agency will become the Visa Issuing Company. This means that the candidate will be working on Visa issued by the Malta Registered Agency but working in the Main Company. If the Company wants to apply for Visa themself in a case The Employer can approach Malta Register Recruitment Agency or send Demand Letter to the Registered Agent in India as well. In the second case, the Company will hire Candidate on Company Visa.

The Process of Recruitment in Malta

he Company has to follow certain rules laid by the Malta government. There are clear guidelines that whatever Jobs are Vacant in a Company like HR Manager, Accountant, Labour, Cleaner, Drivers and etc. The Company has to hire candidates from Local Malta Market who have Residence permits in Malta. This can be applied by the Company or Register Agent in MALTA issued DOP by the hiring Company has to prove that Local Employer is not available in Malta. The Company has to advertise the Vacancy in Local Print Media, Digital Media, and other platforms. If The Company doesn't get any suitable candidates from Malta after Interviewing, the candidates are from MALTA. Thereafter they can approach the Authority to hire candidates from overseas after 2 Weeks with proof of advertisement also called Market Test.

Documents needed for Malta Work Permit Application

The Malta Company Requires documents from Candidates from Overseas. If the Candidate is selected by the Employer in Malta. The candidate must send the below-mentioned documents in clear scanned PDF Format

  • Passport Copy all pages
  • Photo in White background 35/45 CM with 80 Percent Face
  • Updated CV (Europass CV)
  • Experience Letter ( Must have at least 3 Year working experience)
  • Portfolio or Working Video. ( Depending on Job Profile)

The Above mentioned documents will be sent to Visa Issuing Company. The Company will prepare Offer Letter, Contract Letter. All documents will be sent to the Registered Agent in India. All these documents needed to be signed by the candidate and couriered back to Visa issuing Company in Malta for Processing a formal Work Permit called Identity Malta.

Application for Identity Malta

The Visa issuing Company will gather all the relevant documents and apply for Identity Malta. The Register Agent or Company will create a User Id and upload all the relevant documents to the official site. After submission, it will generate an ID Malta link for Payment of EURO 280.80 


The Approval of Identity Malta can take some time depending, on a case-to-case basis from 1 to 3 Months. After getting the Identity Malta Approval this is called Work permit approval but not a Work Permit. After that, the Employer will send Identity Malta, your Contract, Accommodation, and other documents through a courier. After that, you have to apply for a Work permit for Visa Processing according to Checklist mentioned in V.F.S.

Checklist of Malta Visa

1 Application Form duly filled in and signed by the applicant
2 One recent Passport size photograph in color with white background (3.5cm by
4.5cm). Please do not staple the photographs to the Application Form.
3 Passport/Travel documents must:
a) Be valid for at least 3 months after the intended stay;
b) Be issued within the previous 10 years and not valid for more than 10 years;
c) Have at least 3 blank pages.
4 Overseas Travel Medical Insurance valid for all Schengen countries.
The insurance must cover the applicant for at least 30,000 Euros or equivalent for
all risks (accident, illness, medical emergency, evacuation, etc). The policy must
clearly specify the period of validity and must cover at least 91 days from the date of
travel to Malta.
5 Confirmed Travel Itinerary for Travel to Malta.
6 Invitation Letter from Employer stating the professional status of applicant and
details of the work to be carried out in Malta. The letter must be signed by
the authorized person, whose name and designation must be stated.
7Signed employment contract, certified true copy by a Maltese Notary Public.
8 Identity Malta letter confirming that the request for a work permit has been
acceded to.
9 Possession of skills/qualifications if employment so requires; Proof of Board
Membership for liberal professionals; or Letter from Medical Institutions in case
of doctors, must be submitted in originals (Apostilled) together with photocopies.
10 Proof of Accommodation (any one of the following):
(i)Confirmed Hotel Booking; (ii) signed lease contract; or, (iii) ‘Declaration of
Proof’ completely filled in and signed and photocopy of host/owner’s ID card.
Points (ii) & (iii) in original and witnessed by (Maltese) Public Notary.
11 Original & photocopy of all the pages of the current and the last previous passport
